Author Website

A clean, book-first website designed to help readers discover titles, explore upcoming releases, and subscribe for updates. Optimised for mobile browsing with clear navigation across books, projects, and contacts.

Project Overview

AllisonRushby.com is the official author website for novelist Allison Rushby, redesigned and rebuilt to serve as a central digital hub for readers, publishers, and industry professionals. The website showcases Allison’s work across multiple genres and pseudonyms, providing clear access to published books, upcoming releases, and contact pathways while reflecting her author brand.

Prior to the redesign, the website lacked a clear UX structure and cohesive visual identity. Content was text-heavy and inconsistently organised, making it difficult for users to quickly locate key information such as books, new releases, and subscription options. Visual hierarchy was limited, navigation flows were not intuitive, and the overall design did not fully convey the tone or genre range of Allison’s writing.

I led the end-to-end UX and UI redesign and rebuilt the website entirely using Squarespace. This involved restructuring the information architecture, redesigning page layouts, refining typography and colour systems, and improving navigation and user flows. The new site prioritises clarity, scannability, and engagement, with stronger emphasis on featured works, upcoming projects, and calls to action. The result is a polished, user-centred website that supports both audience growth and professional presentation.

Context

This project involved a full redesign and rebuild of the website. The existing site lacked a clear structure and cohesive visual identity, with content that was text-heavy and inconsistently organised. Key information such as books, new releases, and subscription pathways was difficult to locate, and the overall presentation did not effectively reflect the breadth or tone of Allison’s work.

Before & After

Before

The original website contained strong written content but lacked a clear visual hierarchy and intuitive navigation. Information about books, pseudonyms, and upcoming releases was spread across long pages with minimal structural guidance, making it difficult for users to locate key information quickly. Calls to action, such as subscribing or exploring new releases, were present but understated, reducing engagement effectiveness. Overall, the experience felt content-heavy and visually fragmented.

After

The redesigned website introduces a clear page layout redesign, with distinct sections for About, Books, Upcoming Projects, and Contact. Improved spacing, typography, and colour consistency guide users naturally through the site, while prominent visual features highlight major releases such as Slashed Beauties. Navigation is simplified, calls to action are strategically placed, and content is easier to scan, resulting in a more intuitive, immersive, and professional user experience aligned with the author’s brand.
